Earthquake


Earthquakes occur frequently in Japan. And it is possible that the so-called Tokai Earth-quake of about magnitude eight will take place in the near future in areas centering around Suruga Bay.
In order to minimize damage from an earthquake, it is essential to take precautions in your daily life in the event of an earthquake. If there is an earthquake, please do not panic.

Everyday preparedness

A. Secure furniture
B. Prepare fire extinguishers
C. Prepare food (store at least a day supply) and drinking water (store at least a seven day supply)
D. Prepare emergency equipment for your home (First-aid medicine, flashlight, towels, radio, etc.)
E. Know where your nearest emergency evacuation area is.

When an earthquake alarm is announced

A. Confirm information
B. Fire prevention check
C. Taking children back from school
  Meet and take children back from school or kindergarten in accordance with prearranged procedure.
D. Home procedures
Please bring down heavy objects and glass products from upper shelves or the top of furniture.
E. Water and fire-fighting preparation
  Prepare fire extinguishers and buckets. Secure adequate drinking water.
F. Change into suitable clothes
G. Check emergency equipment for the home
H. Try not to use telephones and cars
I. Residents in dangerous areas: Evacuate immediately
  Residents in ordinary area: Act according to the quakeproof strength of your house. If it is not safe, evacuate to a safe place or evacuation area. If it is safe, stay in your house.

When an earthquake occurs.

A. Ensure your safety first.
B. Turn off all gas manes to prevent fires
C. Be quick to turn off all other heat sources. If fire breaks out, extinguish it quickly.
D. Secure an exit.
E. Don't rush out of doors.
F. Stay away from narrow streets, cement block walls, etc.
G. Evacuate on foot with emergency equipment from your home.

Evacuation areas

A. Evacuate to a safe place; For example, the nearest park. (Follow your neighbors)
B. If the nearest ground is not safe, members of the neighborhood association or local
C. fire brigade will lead you to a safe place.
D. City staff will supervise the evacuation of residents to Public Evacuation Areas
E. designated by the city of Mishima.(23 Areas)
